Disorders of sexual development
Babies born with genitalia that do not seem typically male or female or their appearance does not match with chromosomal sex are classified as disorders of sexual development (DSD). They occur in approximately 1 in 1000 to 4500 live births and their evaluation requires a multidisciplinary team.
A disorder of sex development is a mismatch between a child's chromosomes (or genetic material), and the appearance of his or her genitalia. A child can suffer from DSD during infancy, childhood, or adolescence.
