Kidney Stones
As the years go by, we see more frequently the presence of kidney stones in children. These form in the kidneys and can cause an obstruction in the ureter (the tube that connects the kidney to the bladder) causing severe pain, bleeding in the urine, and sometimes complicated urinary infections.
These develop when minerals condense and form crystals within the kidneys. Then they get bigger and turn into kidney stones. Sometimes they can move into the urinary tract and cause a blockage, obstucting the flow of urine. This can cause pain and bleeding in the urine.
When this happens, it is necessary to remove them by surgery in most cases. Later, evaluate how to prevent new stones from developing.
Despite its rarity, lithiasis should be considered in order to avoid irreversible kidney damage.
